What The Gathering Storm is about
Twelve books into The Wheel of Time, the long march toward the Last Battle is close enough to feel. Robert Jordan died before he could finish the series, and Brandon Sanderson was chosen to carry it through. What was meant to be a single closing volume grew into three, and this is the first of them.
Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, has to be there when the Dark One strikes, or the Light has little hope. But the power he wields is wearing down his mind, and he is hunting one of the Forsaken while trying to calm Arad Doman. Egwene al'Vere, meanwhile, works to unify the White Tower and root out the Black Ajah as a Seanchan attack looms. Tuon refuses Rand's offer of a truce and claims the title of Empress. It is an ominous, momentum-building chapter about leadership, duty, and what power does to those who carry it.
