What Lord of Chaos is about
The sixth book in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is a story of rival powers pulling at the same man. Rand is courted by both the rebel Aes Sedai in Salidar and the White Tower Aes Sedai, each sending envoys, while the Dark One, freed a little more as the seals on his prison break, grows stronger and revives two of the Forsaken under new names.
Around Rand, others make their own moves. Mazrim Taim swears allegiance and helps found the Black Tower, a place to train male channelers called Asha'man. Egwene is named Amyrlin of the rebels, Nynaeve and Elayne head to Ebou Dar in search of the Bowl of the Winds, and Morgase, the deposed Queen of Andor, falls into the hands of the Children of the Light. Alanna bonds Rand as her Warder without his consent. Readers who have followed the series this far will find the struggle over who controls whom at its sharpest here. Published in 1994, it was nominated for a Locus Award.
