What Mercury and Me is about
Jim Hutton tells his own story of life beside Freddie Mercury, from their first meeting to the singer's death in 1991. When they began seeing each other in 1984 and 1985, Hutton, then a barber at the Savoy Hotel living in Sutton, Surrey, had no idea who Mercury was. He kept his job and his lodgings for two years after moving in, and later worked as Mercury's gardener. From 1985 on, he was closer to Mercury than anyone, and he knew the people around him, including the other members of Queen, Elton John, David Bowie and Phil Collins. He also cared for Mercury through his final illness and was with him at the end. The publisher presents him as a witness able to tell those last years honestly. Written in an intimate, affectionate and sometimes sorrowful tone, it will appeal to Queen fans and to anyone interested in the private side of fame.
