What The Shadow Rising is about
Rand al'Thor has taken the crystal sword Callandor to prove he is the Dragon Reborn, and now he sets out for the Aiel Waste to be recognized as the leader the Aiel have long been promised. Mat, Moiraine, Egwene and Aviendha travel with him. Elsewhere, Perrin returns to the Two Rivers with Faile, Loial and three Aiel warriors after hearing of trouble at home. Elayne, Nynaeve and Thom Merrilin head to Tarabon to hunt the Black Ajah, and Min arrives in Tar Valon with news for the Amyrlin Seat.
Four plotlines run side by side. The fourth book in The Wheel of Time, it is the series' longest entry at 58 chapters, and it explores prophecy, identity and the weight of leading others. Best for readers already following Rand's journey.
