What 2Nd Chance is about
In San Francisco, a gunman fires into a crowd of children leaving a church, and the violence that follows is stranger and crueler than the first shooting suggests. Homicide Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer is only just returning to work after losing her partner, and she leans on her friends in the Women's Murder Club: medical examiner Claire, assistant D.A. Jill and reporter Cindy. Her investigation points toward a jail-hate gang called Chimera, and the case starts to reach into the women's own lives. Lindsay's father turns up again, too, and his reasons are unclear. This is the second book in the series, following 1st to Die, written by James Patterson with Andrew Gross. The tone is fast, gritty and tense, with friendship and personal loss running underneath the police work. Readers who like a brisk crime story with a close circle of allies will feel at home.
