What Knuffle Bunny is about
Trixie is too young to talk, which becomes a real problem on a trip to the laundromat with her father. Trixie's beloved stuffed rabbit, Knuffle Bunny, gets left behind at the laundromat, and because she cannot talk yet, Trixie cannot tell her father why she is upset. Mo Willems, who wrote and illustrated this 2004 picture book, turns that familiar toddler frustration into a warm and funny story about a child and a parent trying to understand each other. Trixie is named after his own daughter, and knuffle comes from the Dutch word knuffel. The book earned a 2005 Caldecott Honor and led to an animated short, a musical play and two sequels. It is a good pick for parents and small children who know how much a favourite toy can matter.
