Percy Jackson is back, now in his senior year, and this time the trouble starts with a favor. Hecate, goddess of magic, asks him to house-sit her crumbling mansion and look after two odd pets, a hellhound named Hecuba and a polecat named Gale. If he does it well, she will give him his second godly letter of recommendation. If he doesn't, she promises to smite him. Percy brings in Annabeth and Grover, and the three decide the empty house is the perfect spot for a Halloween party for Camp Half-Blood.

Plans, as usual, go sideways. A potion, a wrecked house and two missing animals send Percy on a search that reaches all the way to the ruins of Troy. Beneath the jokes and mythology runs a quieter thread about grief, loneliness and the fear of being left behind as friends head toward the next stage of life. It is the seventh Percy Jackson novel and fits readers who already know the series.
