Shallan discovers the Ghostbloods are chasing power through Ba-Ado-Mishram and resolves to stop them. Adolin goes to Azir to hold back Odium's forces, Jasnah travels to Thaylenah, and Sigzil leads Bridge Four at the Shattered Plains.

The book also includes a run of flashback chapters from Szeth's point of view. Duty, honor, redemption and the costs of war run through it all.
