What The Wedding People is about

Phoebe Stone is an adjunct English professor whose career has stalled, whose divorce was painful, and whose IVF treatment has failed. She checks into a luxury hotel in Newport, Rhode Island, intending to end her life after one last night. But the hotel is hosting a week-long wedding, and when she confesses her plan to the bride, Lila, something shifts. Phoebe, who has spent years studying marriage plot novels, finds herself wanting to see this wedding through to its conclusion.

What follows is a surprising run of connections: a flirtation in the hot tub, a sudden role as replacement maid of honor, and a groom's young daughter nicknamed Juice who has lost her mother. Darkly comic, warm and poignant, the novel handles grief and despair with a light touch and leaves room for second chances. It was a New York Times bestseller and was acquired for film adaptation. Readers who like funny, tender stories about starting over will feel at home.
