What Shiloh is about
Marty Preston is eleven, and he lives in the hills outside Friendly, West Virginia. One day he comes across a stray beagle, and he names the dog Shiloh. The trouble is that Shiloh already belongs to Judd Travers, a neighbor who drinks and treats his hunting dogs badly. Marty's father says the dog must go back. Marty, who tells the story himself, isn't willing to hand Shiloh over, and he begins keeping a secret that grows harder to carry. It's a warm, earnest story about honesty, responsibility and what we owe to animals, and it will suit young readers who care about right and wrong.
