What Fablehaven is about
Kendra and Seth Sorenson are spending a few weeks with their grandfather Stan. They learn that his grounds are Fablehaven, a hidden preserve where magical creatures are kept safe from extinction, including trolls, satyrs, witches, imps and fairies. The children are told never to enter the woods, where dangerous beings live, but a glass of unpasteurized milk from the farm cow lets them see the fairies, and Seth in particular finds the rules hard to follow.
When he befriends a witch in a shack and the night of Midsummer's Eve approaches, the barriers that protect the family begin to give way, and one reckless choice brings serious consequences. Brandon Mull's book is a brisk, inventive adventure about siblings, courage and what happens when rules are ignored. It will especially suit young readers who love hidden magic and creatures of every kind.
