What Escaping Peril is about

Peril has a reputation she cannot shake. She is called the deadliest dragon in Pyrrhia, and her fatal firescales make that title hard to argue with. She once served Queen Scarlet, who used her to kill countless dragons in the SkyWing arena. Now her loyalty belongs to Clay, the only dragonet who has ever treated her as a friend.

When Scarlet begins menacing Jade Mountain Academy, Peril sets out to track down her old queen and stop her. An unexpected companion tags along: Turtle, a SeaWing who will not be talked out of coming because friends of his went searching for Scarlet and never came back. Peril fears she will singe him by accident, or on purpose when he gets on her nerves, and she keeps saying and doing the wrong thing. Then comes an offer of a second chance, at a steep price. Peril must decide where her loyalty truly lies and whether she believes she is worth saving. It is part of a New York Times and USA Today bestselling dragon series, in which Peril, a dragon with deadly firescales, is offered a chance at a second chance and must decide who she is really loyal to and whether her own scales might be worth saving.
