What Amulet is about
Emily and Navin are still grieving their father when their mother moves them into the old house of her deceased great-grandfather. Then a tentacled creature in the basement drags their mother through a door, and the children follow, landing in a world of robots, odd plants and talking animals.
There, Emily finds a magical amulet in the house and learns that its power may be the only thing standing between the land of Alledia and the Elf King. As her abilities grow, so do her responsibilities, and she must make hard moral choices rather than simply win fights.
Kazu Kibuishi writes and draws this first volume of a nine-book graphic novel series from Scholastic's Graphix imprint, and a Netflix adaptation is in development. Its vivid artwork and mix of adventure, family loss and courage make it a welcoming start for younger readers new to graphic novels.
