What The Husband is about
Mitch Rafferty runs a small landscaping business and leads an ordinary life until a phone call changes everything. A stranger says he has kidnapped Mitch's wife, Holly, and demands two million dollars. To prove he means it, the caller has a man across the street shot. Mitch cannot go to the police because he is being watched, and when Detective Sandy Taggart questions him, the victim turns out to be his college roommate, Jason Osteen. Soon Mitch's house is staged to make it look as though he had killed his wife himself. He has sixty hours to save Holly, and his difficult family history, including parents who raised their children in a sensory deprivation 'learning room', hangs over his choices. Dean Koontz, who published this in 2006, calls it a suspense novel and a love story. It is a fast-paced read about an ordinary man pushed to the limit for the woman he loves.
