What Schooled is about
Cap Anderson has spent his whole life on Garland Farm, a remote commune with no phone service, raised by his hippie grandmother, Rain. When Rain is injured and needs two months of physical therapy, Cap goes to live with a social worker and is dropped into eighth grade at Claverage Middle School. Cap finds himself completely unfamiliar with most social situations and modern inconveniences.
The school's bully, Zach Powers, sees an opportunity. He sets Cap up as the most unpopular student to be elected class president, then plans to pile impossible demands on him. Cap makes a friend in Hugh, a geeky outcast, while Naomi's fake love letters add a complication of their own. Told in first person, with a different narrator in each chapter, the novel is a light, satirical comedy about popularity, fitting in and staying true to yourself.
