What Marked is about
Zoey Redbird is sixteen, and in her world vampyres have always existed. One day a Tracker Marks her as a fledgling, which means leaving home for the Tulsa House of Night, a boarding school for those changing into vampyres. Her mother and ultra-religious stepfather try to keep her at home, so she runs to her grandmother Sylvia, a Cherokee Wise Woman, and has a vision of the goddess Nyx.
At school Zoey finds a roommate in Stevie Rae, friends in Damien, Erin and Shaunee, and a rival in Aphrodite, who can see the future and is misusing her gifts. Zoey's Mark is unusually filled in, a sign that Nyx has a great destiny in mind for her. The first book of the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, it is youthful, melodramatic and supernatural, a story about fitting in, friendship and power.
