What Into the Wild is about
Rusty is a flame-coloured housecat who leaves his comfortable life and joins ThunderClan, one of four Clans of wild cats sharing a forest. Renamed Firepaw, he must prove himself to a leader named Bluestar and to warriors such as Longtail, who will not forgive his pampered past. Among the Clan's medicine cat's visions comes a prophecy that fire alone will save the Clan.
Firepaw makes friends in Graypaw and Ravenpaw, and an unlikely one in Yellowfang, a medicine cat exiled from ShadowClan. Meanwhile the ambitious warrior Tigerclaw has his eye on leadership. Told from Firepaw's point of view, the story explores belonging, loyalty and rivalry between Clans.
It is the first book in the Warriors series, written by a team under the name Erin Hunter. It has been published in paperback and e-book formats in twenty different languages.
