Greg Heffley is having a rotten run. His best friend, Rowley Jefferson, has dropped him, and making new friends in middle school is turning out to be much harder than Greg hoped. Rather than keep fighting his bad luck, he tries something different: he hands his decisions over to chance and sees where the dice land.
The story asks whether a roll of the dice can turn things around, or whether Greg is simply fated to be a hard-luck case.
