BookWard review of Double Down
4 of 5 stars 4.4 out of 5, from 125 reader ratings
BookWard rates Double Down 4.4 out of 5. That is the average of 125 reader ratings on Open Library (4.48), adjusted toward the typical book so that a small number of ratings cannot inflate it. Beyond the rating, it is #92 on BookWard's Top 100 books; 1,426 readers want to read it, 109 are reading it right now and 159 have finished it. Its adjusted rating is higher than 96% of the books on the Top 100.
How this rating works
BookWard’s rating is calculated, not hand-scored. We take the average rating readers have given the book on Open Library and adjust it toward the typical book: adjusted = (n × average + 25 × 3.8) ÷ (n + 25), where n is the number of ratings. A book needs at least 50 ratings to be rated. The rating reflects how readers received the book, not whether it is right for you. Your own ratings on your shelf are private and are not part of this number.

What the data says about Double Down

About Double Down
What it’s about
Greg Heffley has a problem at home: his mom has decided that all those hours with a game controller are turning his brain to mush. Her cure is to push him toward his "creative side," and Greg is not thrilled about it. Then Halloween starts closing in, with scares waiting around every corner, and a bag of gummy worms hands him an idea. Greg considers making a movie as a way to get his mom off his back. In his mind, it solves everything at once: his mom will stop hovering, and he will become rich and famous along the way. Whether piling one big plan on top of another is wise, or just doubles the mess, is the question hanging over his head. A funny, easy read about family nagging and the lure of fame, suited to young readers who like Greg's schemes.
