What The Bazaar of Bad Dreams is about
Stephen King's sixth collection of short stories gathers tales about guilt, mortality and the strange intruding on ordinary lives. Many of the characters are near the end of life and find themselves looking back at old crimes and small wrongs. One man, dead of colon cancer, keeps living the same life again and repeating his mistakes. In another story, a newspaper columnist discovers that writing someone's obituary can kill them.
Some of the stories are new, and King opens each with a short note on where it came from or why he wrote it, which gives the book a conversational, reflective tone alongside the eerie material. It won the Shirley Jackson Award for best collection, and 'Obits' took an Edgar Award. Readers who like King's shorter work, or who want a way into it, will find plenty of variety here.
