What Hannibal is about
Seven years have passed since the events of The Silence of the Lambs, and Thomas Harris returns to Dr. Hannibal Lecter in this third book of his series. FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling is back as well, appearing for the second time in the series. The plot turns on the planned revenge of one of Lecter's victims, which sets obsession and retribution at the centre of the story. Dark, gothic and sophisticated in tone, it asks what separates civilization from savagery and leaves moral certainty in short supply.
