What The Housemaid Is Watching is about
A woman who once cleaned other people's houses now has one of her own. She and her husband saved for years to give their children a good life, and the new place has a charming kitchen, a quiet cul-de-sac, and a huge yard. But the neighbor, Mrs. Lowell, reacts oddly when she sees the husband, and a woman across the street tells the narrator to be careful of the people next door. Dinner at Mrs. Lowell's brings a maid to the door in a white apron, her hair pulled into a tight bun, which stirs up exactly the past the narrator wants to leave behind. Then she spots a figure watching the house, and her husband slips out late at night. Freida McFadden builds a fast, suspenseful story about class, secrets, and who can be trusted. It suits readers who enjoy a twisty thriller set close to home.
