What All Systems Red is about
The narrator is a Security Unit, an artificial construct built to protect the humans it works with. At some point it hacked its own governor unit, which gave it the freedom to make its own choices. It has named itself Murderbot, and what it mostly wants is to be left alone to watch its favorite unrealistic soap operas.
The trouble is that it now spends more time around some caring humans, and it starts to develop feelings it would rather not have. Told in a dry, sardonic voice, this first book in a series by Martha Wells explores independence, identity, and what it means to connect with other people when you never asked to.
