What Daisy Jones & the Six is about

Told as a series of interviews, this novel looks back on a fictional 1970s rock band and the tangled story of how it rose and then fell apart. The framing recalls Fleetwood Mac and the making of Rumours, though the people here are invented. Daisy Jones is a rich Hollywood kid who was slipping into Sunset Strip clubs at fourteen and scribbling her own songs. Far away in Pittsburgh, brothers Billy and Graham Dunne start a group that will eventually become The Six.

Both paths lead to Los Angeles and a record deal. Billy's life is already crowded with a young family and a hard-drinking, drug-heavy touring routine, while Daisy fights a label that would rather hand her someone else's songs. A producer's idea of a duet pushes the two of them into the same studio. The reason the band broke up at its peak is the question the whole book circles. Readers who like music history, big personalities and the price of fame will find a lot here.
