What You'd Be Home Now is about
Emory is starting her junior year in Mill Haven, a mill town still shaken by a car accident that happened four months ago. She and her older brother Joey were in the car, and Candy MontClaire died. The crash also exposed how deep Joey's drug habit had gone. Now he is home from rehab, though no one is sure he is truly better.
Emory has been given a label everywhere she turns. In town she is the rich one, descended from the mill's founder. At school she is hot Maddie Ward's younger sister. At home she is the good one, which mostly means she keeps an eye on Joey. As she watches the boy next door and the addicts who linger at the edges of town, the story asks what is left of a family when the labels fall away. It is a raw, emotional read that leans toward hope, and it suits readers who want a story about grief, siblings and learning to love people as they actually are.
