People We Meet on Vacation

What People We Meet on Vacation is about

Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsen could hardly be more different. She is outgoing and impulsive, a travel writer for R+R living in New York City. He is quiet and mild-mannered. Both grew up in Linfield, Ohio, and met at the University of Chicago. For ten years they took a week away together every summer, until a trip to Dubrovnik left them not speaking for two years. Now Poppy realizes she has not truly been happy on a trip since those summers with Alex, and she asks him to join her for one more, a stay in Palm Springs around his younger brother David's wedding.

Emily Henry moves between that present-day week and flashbacks to earlier holidays, letting the history of the friendship unfold in pieces. Funny and warm, with plenty of longing, it is a good pick for readers who enjoy friends-to-lovers romance and armchair travel. It was published in 2021 and became a New York Times best seller. In the UK and Australia it is titled You and Me on Vacation.
